Have you had enough of the cold time of year? In that case, bring some spring into your home right now and make sure winter goes away like melting snow. The Gartencenter Meier in Dürnten has plenty of decorating tips and offers some new ideas.by Gabi Hophan

These days, thankfully it's not necessary to wait until the snowdrops start to bloom. That's because the first heralds of spring have been in garden centres and flower shops for some time, and all you need is a bit of imagination.

Spring in a pot or a glass

What are your very favourite spring flowers? Snowdrops, crocuses or even delicately scented jasmine? Bring some of your favourites into your home and put them on bare windowsill, in a double window, on a sideboard or in a niche. Our tip: always place several pots (at least three) next to each other and select at least one common element (the same pot height or colour, the same flowers, etc.). Of course, you can also replant these spring flowers in glass vases. Put some sand or earth in a glass container and start to grow some colourful flowering plants. Make sure not to overwater them.

Let everything bud

Did you ever get a bare branch to bud? It's actually pretty simple. Take a twig from a willow, birch, hazel or forsythia tree, put it in water at room temperature, then after a few days you can watch it start to bud. Our tip: twigs from apple, pear or cherry trees are especially lovely because of their blossoms.

Small, colourful but oh, so pretty!

Sometimes shot glasses, cups and eggcups made of glass, porcelain or ceramic are just the thing. Fill them with water and inside them put blossoms from tulips, snowdrops, daffodils, buttercups or pussy willows. Place them throughout your apartment or house and a bit of spring returns in no time at all.

Do you love herbs?

Herbs won't grow in your garden quite yet, but they do in shops. Purchase an assortment and plant them in wicker baskets or pots. So that you can later tell what you planted, you can put small porcelain tags on the containers. By the way, there's far more than just the very familiar herbs such as rosemary, marjoram and thyme.
