Labels avoid chaos

The better you plan a move, the faster you can unpack boxes and set up furniture. Here are a few tips.

Label all removal cartons

If you'd like to avoid nervously searching for certain objects and would like to put things in their proper place in an orderly fashion, be sure to number each removal carton and write on it the room where it should be unloaded (e.g. #1, kitchen). In addition, create a list of the contents of each (e.g. Carton 1, kitchen: pans). Don't overpack removal cartons with too much weight (maximum 30 kg).

The information on the cartons (e.g. #1, kitchen) helps you in two ways: based on the carton number you can check on the list what was put into each one. In this way you can, if necessary, find those items you need desperately before everything has been put in its place. The notation of the room also helps you to place cartons in the proper place in the new apartment during the move.

Label furniture parts

So that you quickly know which parts belong to which pieces of furniture, when disassembling each piece it's a good idea to label each part in such a way that you also know in which room it should go. For instance, label the 20 parts for the bedroom wardrobe as 1/1/B, 1/2/B, 1/3/B and so on (the first number identifies the piece of furniture, the second shows the order of parts during reassembly, and B means bedroom).

This is more important than you might think - first, not only will you recognise which individual parts belong to each piece of furniture, but labelling also tells in which order they should be reassembled and in which room they should be placed when the removal truck is unloaded.

Important: place all hinges, locks, keys, etc. which belong to a given piece of furniture into a plastic bag (e.g. a freezer bag) and likewise mark it with the corresponding code (e.g. 1/B = furniture piece #1, bedroom).
