Lugano is an Italian-speaking city in southern Switzerland, in the Ticino region. Its mix of Swiss and Mediterranean culture is very close to that of the Lombardy region, in northern Italy.
The city is located on the north shore of Lake Lugano, a glacial lake surrounded by mountains. The main square, Piazza della Riforma, is surrounded by neoclassical palaces with pastel colors. It is rich in buildings in the Lombard style, colorful palaces and arcades.
It hosts museums, cultural centers, boutiques and shops. Lugano is characterized by a continental climate influenced by the Alpine currents, with very variable weather conditions depending on the season.
