The mountain village is located at 1,048 m above sea level, and the lowest point in Lax, at 980 m above sea level, is also the lowest point in Goms. The municipal area is exclusively located on the right side of the Rhone. Lax can be reached from the west via Brig (15 km), and in the summer from the east via the Grimsel, Furka, or Nufenen pass, as well as in the winter from the east with the car transport through the Furka tunnel (15.4 km). The village is also well connected by public transport (Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn).

The train runs at half-hour intervals towards Goms or towards Brig and Visp. Lax is located at a comfortable commuting distance of 30 minutes from the Brig-Visp-Naters agglomeration.
