Public life in Birgisch takes place in the main hamlet "Zär Kapälla". Here, within a few meters, are the chapel from the knight's period, the school and community house, and the restaurant, fire station, and grocery store. Above the Birgisch forest and the steeply falling rocks, the Nesselalp towers. It is a popular resting point on the beautiful hike from Birgisch to Belalp. Suonen are historic irrigation canals in Valais, and the Suone Obersta was first mentioned in 1435. It gets its water from the Mundbach and leads it east of Birgisch into the Milchbach. Looking from Birgisch towards the Gredetsch Valley, the municipality of Mund is located there. The mountain village is known far beyond the national border for its saffron. The region of Naters - Blatten - Belalp is known primarily for its membership in the UNESCO World Heritage Swiss Alps Jungfrau - Aletsch.
