This detached, multi-published exposed concrete house (built in 2003) is located in a privileged, south-oriented slope position above Sargans in the hamlet of Retell and opens up to a wide view over the Sarganserland and the Bündner Herrschaft.

The house was precisely designed by Aschwanden Schürer Architekten, Zurich, and has seven rooms spread over three floors, grouped around a central staircase on staggered levels. Different room heights and open spatial references create a flowing, extremely spacious room feeling.

Architecture, materials and comfort

Exposed concrete, metal and glass, as well as generous openings, determine the architectural expression. Seamless concrete flooring and smooth plaster surfaces continue the reduced material world inside. The three wet cells are executed in glass mosaic in light blue, reed green and white-gray. The kitchen, built-in cabinets and built-in furniture are custom-made by the local carpenter; the entrance door, wardrobe and entrance cladding are made of elm.

The living room has a large, open fireplace integrated into the wall. The heat supply is provided by geothermal probes (two drillings of 75 m) with underfloor heating. Electric roller shutters and skylights complement the comfort. Fiber optic connection, LAN cabling and Bang & Olufsen cabling are available.

Garden and infinity pool

The spacious terrace and garden seating area create direct transitions between the house and garden. The naturally maintained vegetation with native species and the terrain steps accompany the architecture. From the pool and garden, the view opens up over the valley and the surrounding mountain landscape.

The infinity pool made of stainless steel, built in 2016/2017, is located in a dark-colored exposed concrete body (external dimensions 4 x 9 m) and has a counter-current system, a color-controllable pool lighting, a stainless steel staircase and a bench across the entire width. The electric roller shutter cover is housed in the bench. The pool is heated with an air-water heat pump. Pool and control technology as well as the cleaning system are located in the house. An outdoor solar shower complements the equipment.

Location

Sargans combines short distances with excellent traffic connections. Coop, Migros, Pizolpark, Pizolcenter and other specialty stores are within a few minutes' drive.

The Kantonsschule Sargans offers a gymnasium, business middle school, computer science middle school and vocational middle school.

As an important traffic hub in the region, Sargans is very well connected by both train and car. Zurich, Chur and St. Gallen can be reached directly by train; Liechtenstein, Bad Ragaz, the Bündner Herrschaft and the Rhine Valley are nearby. Pizol, Flumserberg and Walensee offer a variety of opportunities for sports, recreation and leisure.
