Magnificent Farm renovated. Entered into the history of watchmaking

IN 1985, THIS RESTORED OLD FARM HAD RECEIVED THE NEUCHÂTEL PRIZE FOR HEIMATSCHUTZ.THE PAST TO THE PRESENTWhen architecture is combined with the past, or how to bridge three and a half centuries of history.Between the original "beautiful room" and the modern living room installed in the old barn, there is only a simple wooden door. And a leap of three hundred and fifty years. But no shock: just life continuing, in the gentle hills of this northern corner of the Val-de-Ruz.It is a Jurassic farm, like some still existing in the region. Built in 1652, it belonged to the same family of modest peasants, the Scheideggers, throughout the last century. When the father died in the sixties, the mother and daughter continued to live there as if they were in the previous century, with just enough electricity and water to be drawn from the cistern. The tiny habitable part consisted of the hearth (the kitchen), the "beautiful room" which was only entered on holidays, and above, a small room: the "grandfather's room", which was accessed by a hatch on the stove. Everything else was the barn and the empty stable. The house was abandoned in the mid-seventies when the mother died and the daughter had to be placed in a home. For ten years, Henri and Paule Schneider had been searching the region for a farm to renovate. They must have passed by this ruin ten times: cracked walls, the roof ready to collapse, the beams rotten... What prompted them to take a look inside on that summer day in 1979? And there, in what was left of the kitchen, a column supported a blackened fireplace, on which a small wood stove sat, they stopped in front of the column: a masterpiece of a stone corner column, carved, intact, beautiful as on the first day, supporting a chimney with a straight lintel. They bought the column... with the ruin around it. After they had to buy out an investor who wanted to install vacation apartments there. Purchase price: 50,000 francs. The Heimatschutz then stepped in and immediately classified the facade. For the rest... the brave owners began an adventure similar to the one told by Katharina von Arx in Ma Folie Romainmôtier.Henri Schneider, ETS engineer in the watchmaking industry, and his wife Paule - "no training but passions" - worked with craftsmen from the region, rediscovering the techniques, relearning the traditional gestures, transforming themselves, from weekend to weekend, into laborers, masons, carpenters, draftsmen, historians. First objective: the rough construction. Jean-Louis Geiser, carpenter from La Ferrière, built the new roof structure, calculated according to modern norms but using the old building techniques: six columns, roof beams made from tan oak logs planed on two sides, beams and posts adjusted and fixed with wooden pegs. The 305 m² of roofing were covered, as originally, with 66 cm long wooden shingles made from white fir wood, which Henri Schneider had chosen in the forest with Denis Sauser from La Chaux-du-Milieu, one of the last specialists in this art (he received the Heimatschutz prize in 1981).

6.5 rooms218m² living space
Champ Favre 9, 2515 Prêles

218 m² of living space facing the Alps

Welcome In Prêles, on the heights of the Plateau de Diesse, this individual villa with 6.5 rooms offers a living space where space, tranquility, and panorama meet with rare evidence. With its 218 m² of living space and nearly 300 m² of useful space, the property seduces as much by its volumes as by its opening onto the outside. Oriented full south, it benefits from a largely unobstructed view of the countryside and the Alpine chain, perceptible directly from the living areas thanks to its generous bay windows.Without direct visibility on its main orientations, the house offers a particularly appreciable intimacy while remaining close to the schools, transport, and amenities of the village.Designed for a comfortable family life, it has four bedrooms, several spaces that can evolve according to needs, numerous storage spaces, and outdoor amenities that allow you to fully enjoy the property in all seasons. LET'S VISIT... Upon arrival, the numerous parking possibilities facilitate daily life: two vehicles can take place under cover and four additional outdoor spaces complete the set.Inside, the warm architecture, the exposed beams, and the stone walls give the house character. The main level is articulated around a generous living room widely open to the panorama. The large glass surfaces naturally extend the interior to the terrace and allow you to enjoy the view over the seasons. The living room is enhanced by a wood stove equipped with cooking plates and an oven, while the open kitchen has an adjacent pantry that is particularly practical in daily life.A first bedroom and a bathroom complete this level and allow for different uses to be planned: guest room, office, or independent space for a family member.Upstairs, the sleeping area accommodates three bedrooms, including a parental bedroom with a fitted dressing room and access to the balcony. A second open living space brings real flexibility to the house: office, library, playroom, TV corner, or space dedicated to teenagers according to needs.A recently renovated bathroom completes this floor. The house is also distinguished by its numerous annexed surfaces. A closed and bright workshop of about 30 m², equipped with workbenches, will delight DIY enthusiasts or can accommodate professional equipment. A veranda of about 20 m², an attic, several storage spaces, a cellar, and a wine cellar come to complete the approximately 300 m² of useful space of the property.Outside, two atmospheres respond to each other. On the south side, the terrace fully enjoys the panorama and sunshine.Behind the house, more intimate, a relaxation area allows you to enjoy the sauna, hot tub, and covered barbecue area in an atmosphere preserved from views. Conclusion More than a question of surface area, this house offers above all freedom: space for a family, to receive, to work, to tinker, to relax, or simply to enjoy the calm and the view.An individual property with generous spaces, designed for those who seek space and intimacy without wanting to be far from amenities.

Character property in the immediate vicinity of Étang de la Gruère

Only a few minutes from the prestigious Étang de la Gruère, one of Switzerland's most emblematic natural sites, this charming property benefits from an exceptional environment in the heart of the Franches-Montagnes. In a setting where centuries-old forests border the vast, typical pastures of the region, it offers a rare way of life, imbued with serenity, authenticity, and discretion. Here, nature invites itself into daily life, while remaining close to essential amenities and main communication axes.Built on a carefully maintained plot on the edge of the forest, this house immediately seduces with its warm character and harmonious integration into the surrounding landscape. This warm space invites family evenings or gatherings with friends in a convivial atmosphere. The large openings allow natural light to generously penetrate the rooms throughout the day, creating a permanent feeling of space and well-being.The living room naturally opens onto a first veranda, a true additional living space that extends the interior spaces outward. A second veranda completes the ensemble and offers multiple possibilities for layout according to the wishes of its future owners: reading salon, relaxation area, winter garden, or reception space bathed in light. The fully equipped kitchen combines practicality and conviviality. The garden, perfectly integrated into its natural environment, constitutes a true green jewel inviting relaxation and contemplation.
