Formerly part of the Viertels Grafschaft, it has belonged to the municipality of Goms since 2017. First mentioned in 1277 as "Buele", Biel was its historical center from 1374. In 1827, an avalanche destroyed half of the village, and since 2003, a dam has protected it from the Walibach.
